The trendy muslin fabric is currently experiencing a revival and is the must-have of summer 2022! Thanks to its loose weave, muslin fabric is wonderfully airy and feels pleasantly soft on the skin. The lightweight muslin fabric is primarily used for airy summer dresses, blouses, or wide trousers.
In this blog, we want to inform you about the advantages of this feel-good fabric and show you how to combine it into great outfits.
Origin of Muslin Fabric
Muslin (sometimes also mousseline) refers to a very fine and loosely woven fabric, usually made of cotton. The fabric got its name from the city of Mosul in present-day northern Iraq, as the fabric at that time usually had oriental patterns. The fibers of the fabric are only lightly spun, which provides the soft feel. A classic plain weave is used for weaving, which is quite loose. Due to this net-like structure, the fabric has a light weight and is somewhat translucent.
Fun fact: Since the fine fabric provided less protection against cold, many women in the winter of the 19th century suffered from colds, which were jokingly called "muslin diseases" at the time.
Advantages of the Feel-Good Fabric
- Due to its loose & soft structure, muslin is particularly comfortable on the skin, breathable, and well-suited for warm temperatures.
- Furthermore, muslin is very easy to care for, washes well, and you can usually skip ironing due to the fabric's crinkled look.
- Muslin is versatile - whether in original patterns or solid colors, the trendy fabric is an eye-catcher, and we can't get enough of comfortable muslin shirts and co.
Styling Tips
Our Zwillingsherz favorite pieces made from trendy muslin fabric are in summery shades: coral, strong orange, fir green, or pink. This makes muslin pieces easy to combine, as they immediately become the focal point of the outfit!
But muslin trousers & muslin shirts in white and beige can also be styled wonderfully, e.g., together with animal prints, but also great with a rocky leather jacket.
The characteristic structure of muslin fabric immediately adds depth to an outfit. This characteristic can also be used for monochrome outfits. Here, it is good to combine different textures.
Most of our garments made from the popular feel-good fabric have a wider cut and should fall loosely. They thus also provide a light and casual look. Despite the wide cut, white muslin dresses, for example, can also be worn for more elegant occasions, because with a few gold or silver accessories and feminine stilettos, a muslin dress looks enchantingly elegant.
