Sustainable Clothing - What Zwillingsherz Does for the Environment

The world stands still -

The Corona virus limits our freedom, creates distance, and divides opinions. We have all reached a point where we long for the old times, when we lay in the sun with friends or family, went out to eat together or looked forward to booking our next holiday. All of that has to take a backseat for now.

Nevertheless, we should remain positive! Of course, it would be great if we could return to our normal everyday lives tomorrow and see our loved ones again, but the pandemic also has positive aspects: Good things are being done for the environment! (At the end of the blog I have some great facts that will automatically put a smile on your face - I promise!)

All the better that this year - despite chaos and Corona - we celebrated "Earth Day" in Germany on April 22, 2020. A day to show our appreciation and respect for our earth. That's why we planted a tree for every order placed on that day - for the sake of the environment. At Zwillingsherz, we have been dealing with the topics of sustainability and the environment for a long time and are constantly trying to optimize our processes in order to do more and more positive things for the environment.

We want to ship carbon-neutral

Hopefully soon no more emissions, no more CO2. We want that, and that's why we introduced Go Green. What does that mean for you? When you order from us, you reduce transport-related CO2 emissions. When your order is transported, greenhouse gases are produced. By investing in climate protection projects, these are then offset, and you can - together with us - make a positive contribution to climate protection.

Sustainable thinking from beginning to end

Sustainability does not begin with shipping, but already in production. For this reason, we decided from the outset to produce our sustainable clothing mainly in Europe. Why is this sustainable? CO2 is emitted during the transport of goods - whether by ship, airplane, or truck. The longer the transport route, the more CO2 is emitted. In addition to CO2 emissions, we also consider social issues to be part of sustainability. For us, satisfied staff in the production facilities are just as important as sustainable transport. That is why we ensure that employees on-site are well, are paid fairly, and have good working conditions.

Conscious packaging and doing good

Have you ever received a package from us that didn't look quite so new? Very good! We usually use bags made of recyclable plastic. However, if your package is too large, you will either receive a carton with the RESY environmental label (paper and cardboard from transport packaging are collected and reused) or you will receive a used carton that is reused by us. In this way, we avoid unnecessary waste and do not harm the environment. If you then do not want to keep your order, we try to sell it on - either in our online shop or wholesale. If the clothing does not sell there either, it will under no circumstances be thrown away, but instead donated to the Hamburger Tafel. Making other people happy is always great, isn't it?

Our sustainable clothing - With organic and bamboo for a more sustainable world

In the area of clothing, too, we are increasingly focusing on sustainability. That is why we use organic cotton for some of our products, such as our great "Cora" sweater from our organic collection. This means that the cotton comes from controlled organic cultivation, because when organic cotton is grown, a crop rotation is carried out, whereby cotton and other crops are alternately grown on this rich soil. Through this sustainable process, not only is the soil protected, but the cotton is also less susceptible to pests and diseases. In addition, no chemical, toxic pesticides may be used for fertilization. This is not only more pleasant and gentler on the skin, but also uses much less water. Up to 2,000 litres of water per kilogram of cotton are saved here - hard to believe, but true.

To be able to produce our sustainable "Cora" sweater from our organic collection, the organic cotton is harvested by hand, so no leaching agents are used, as is the case with machine harvesting.

From "old" we make "new"

We use existing materials and create new sustainable clothing from them, so that our "Larissa" triangular scarf and our "Monika" hat are made of recycled fibres. The advantage of such recycling lies in the reduction of land and water consumption.

We produce according to the motto: "REUSE - REDUCE - RECYCLE"

As we are constantly developing, improving sustainability and wanting to try new things, you can now also get a bamboo scarf from us - our bamboo scarf "Molly". Bamboo? Yes, exactly!

Bamboo is one of the sustainable raw materials because it grows back very quickly and therefore there is no danger of eradicating the species. But why is bamboo used for clothing? Bamboo is a hollow fiber. Simply put: there is a hole in the fiber that can absorb and store moisture very well and provides significantly better ventilation. In addition, bamboo is antibacterial - it prevents the growth of bacteria on the surface. This means that the scarf absorbs hardly any odors and therefore does not have to be chemically treated beforehand - good for the skin and environmentally friendly at the same time. Due to the low odor absorption, the bamboo scarf has to be washed much less often, which not only saves you energy, but also increases the lifespan of your scarf and you will enjoy it for many years to come.

And what about the look of our sustainable clothing? Bamboo is a mix of the shine of silk and the soft feel of cashmere. So you have a shiny look and yet a soft feel. In summary: Our bamboo scarf "Molly" is practical, easy to care for, comfortable and also looks good!
