Cashmere Care Guide

Hi! Great to have you here!

Zwillingsherz GmbH

Let's talk about cashmere...

No other wool is as fine and cuddly as cashmere. As the finest wool in the world, it needs proper care to look beautiful and well-maintained for a long time. Cashmere wool, just like our hair, is made of amino acids. Although cashmere fibers are very fine, they are still very strong, tear-resistant, and very flexible! The high flexibility of the fibers is also why cashmere doesn't wrinkle easily and doesn't necessarily need to be ironed.

Excellent heat retention and the cuddly factor that cashmere provides justify its high price. Furthermore, it is very breathable and does not easily absorb body odors. The soft and warm cashmere is also water-repellent - so it dries very quickly after washing.

That's interesting:

Our 100% cashmere items have come a long way: they originate in China. This is largely due to the fact that the cashmere goat is native to the high Himalayas.

We fly to China approximately every 6 months to visit the production facilities and inspect the working conditions and the cashmere suppliers. There, the undercoat of the cashmere goat is still traditionally combed out with wooden combs very gently at the end of winter, or the beginning of spring, during the goat's shedding. This ensures that the regrowing fibers remain soft and fine, and the quality of the harvested wool is high. However, the combing process can take up to two weeks, with approximately 200 grams of wool collected per animal. The subsequent work steps are also often performed by hand.

Did you know?

The characteristic properties of the products can only be produced under certain conditions. For the undercoat to develop with high quality, harsh winters with extreme temperatures are required. This is a natural protective mechanism of the cashmere goat. Here, temperatures of up to -40°C in winter are not uncommon. Even today, many Asian countries offer the ideal conditions for the development of high-quality undercoat, while German manufacturers are dependent on the import of cashmere.

Naturally, we ensure that we do not interfere with the course of nature, which is why it is important to us to support the natural shedding of the goats. Furthermore, we attach particular importance to transparent production that takes place under humane conditions.

Our care tips:

  • No matter if it's a sweater, hat, or scarf made of cashmere - hand washing with a wool detergent (alternatively: with mild hair shampoo) is the best choice!

  • When washing, use only cold or lukewarm water

  • Avoid rubbing or wringing

  • Let it dry flat - never hang it up when wet, otherwise, its shape will change!

  • Avoid direct sunlight

  • Sometimes it's enough to simply air out cashmere, as it loves fresh air and activates its self-cleaning powers!

This way, your high-quality cashmere pieces will stay with you for a very long time!
